V4 is probably not as relevant today because it's main goals have been achieved, like integration into EU structures etc. Personally I would like to see V4 like a more pragmatic alternative to left leaning tandem Germany - France in European parliament. Voting force for East of Europe.

I think the main reason why people vote for populists like in Hungary is EU elite's total detachment from real problems. Lack of affordable housing, illegal immigration, technical norms and legislation tailored to German manufacturers to minimize competition, imports of heavily subsidized food products that ruins local agriculture.... Instead of that Brussels is preoccupied with problems like how to convert toilets in university campuses so transgender students can wee in peace.

I am more than proud to be on that list! :-D

Agree with the with the first paragraph. More free trade and less progressivism! But the second one is ridiculous. You can only blame your grandfathers for the rise of communism in Hungary. Roosevelt had no option than to do a deal with Stalin and divide Europe into spheres of interests. Soviet union was on the winning side with the allies, with a great loss of 20M men. Did you expect them to go home empty handed? Don't be so naive! Unfortunately we in Eastern Europe fell into the wrong sphere of interest and experienced 40 years of mayhem and decay under the rule of the Soviet drunkards. Americans did for Europe more than anyone else, fought two world wars, created Marshall plan and new world order. Finland is an example of country country that fought fiercely against the Soviets with great losses but never became communist despite the enormous pressure.

EU is not supposed to be a unified state or a superpower. It's union of (theoretically) sovereign states with free trade a free movement. I am not a fan of centralization and federalisation and the political development after Lisbon treaty deeply worries me. But it is clear that together European countries balance the power of the US, Russia and China much better than on their own.

I think one of the main things that V4 countries have in common, regardless their differences, is opposition to European "progressivism". It spreads like a cancer through this lovely continent and spoils everything!
