I think I can explain why they never made the front page in American News Papers. I used to keep track of a lot of H-Denialist on youtube before they were well removed by force so to speak from the platform, and one posted a video once showing decades/generations of news papers/articles dating back to the mid/late 19th Century of similar stories being publicized in Newspapers across American, not surprisingly almost all dealing with Eastern Europe. I think it's a "boy who cried wolf" scenario, or... perhaps more accurately fatigue. People grew up seeing reports like this their entire lives, whether true or not it really didn't matter no more. Newspapers likely just knew they wouldn't sell news papers if they made that their headlines. People often forget, Newspapers = a business, a product. You put on the headline what will sell papers. You see this with gang violence in the USA, thousands are killed every single year, never makes it onto the front page of anything, not until it becomes politically relevant anyways or someone specific is killed that causes public outrage. Even mass shootings are not getting the same publicity they used to get, so much so South Park literally did an episode on people being desensitized to it.
