If I recall Kesselring was handed over to Italy for his crimes, and the Italian authority chose not to execute him. I could be wrong, the Allies did hand a number of war criminals over to the mercy of the nations they committed their crimes in. So Despite not being able to confirm it myself, it is just something I remember reading. Then again perhaps it was Student? But I do remember one of them was sentenced to death but pardoned by the Italians. But again I could be wrong. I'm stating this entirely from memory.

@giancarlodellaquila5781 Okay, after looking into it, I was indeed wrong. I was very unsure of the authenticity of the information, and my concerns were warranted. Now I'm curious where I heard it from, I checked Kurt Student and the story doesn't check him either. I do remember a Luftwaffe officer who was charged but pardoned by the Italians, this could of just been a fabricated story I read somewhere.
