  1. 1. Turkey wished to remain neutral. Alliance was out of the question. 2. Invading Turkey to get to the USSR would only alert the USSR to reinforce it's Russo-Turkish border being it's mountainous it would be like smashing into a brick wall, not exactly a war of movement. 3. The Germans might be bullishly over confident, but honestly I don't think they would be that stupid to do so because of reason 2, and the risk involved.
