5:01 I remember another incident in which a scenario like this happened, but it happened during one of the encirclements of red army troops, though I can not remember exactly where. There were orders to break out of the encirclement and each attack failed, with the last few waves having more men than they had weapons to arm them because they were being made up of auxiliaries not actual combat troops, with supposedly the very last wave made up of random automobiles of unarmed personnel rushing to pick up weapons off the corpses of those who had already fallen as earlier attempts the unarmed persons fell before even reaching the dead. Could be a made up story. But the primary reason the attacks happened in waves I would assume has more to do with units involved, with say the first few waves were actual combat personnel while the latter were none combatant personnel being forced into the role but without the equipment needed to fight because that equipment was already lost trying to break out. So unlike what you see in the movie Enemy at the Gate, it's actually a believable scenario.
