I remember seeing this a few days ago. Though I think this is just a training exercise. That being said, the Japanese did have bicycle units, instead of cavalry. You still see the tradition actually in Japan with the JSDF having Motorcycle troops.

It's kind of cool. It plays off the Mounted Infantry doctrine. Provide individual soldiers with a means of increased mobility, to bring themselves into battle. The American Civil War most Cavalry for example were Mounted Infantry, not exactly "Cavalry." Which means they were trained to dismount their horses and fight like irregular light infantry, and the horses were just the means of getting to the battlefield faster. You see this in the 20th Century with Bicycle and Motorcycle troops as well, serving a similar function. Though the use was pretty limited because most countries opted to using trucks/half tracks and other methods of providing infantry with greater mobility.

Well to be honest, similar to motorcycle troops, and mounted infantry before that ie cavalry that doesn't fight on horse back but rides into battle dismounts and fights like infantry. It does provide increase mobility for light forces, and honestly being electric engines they would be pretty quiet. Though to be honestly, I doubt they have the torque be TOO useful lets say in rougher terrain.

@mcnally211 You fail to realize not all forces have infrared. It's actually been one thing that Ukraine has had an advantage in. Having more access to superior accessories for firearms, and night warfare equipment at the infantry level. Even at the beginning of the war Russia's best units didn't even have infrared at a infantry level, it was restricted to vehicles. You will not see footage from the early stages of the war of Russian airborne troops with infrared equipment, not even optics on their rifles. Now that might have changed a year later though. I just watched footage a bit ago of Ukrainian troops walking up on a Russian trench while they were still sleeping. No one was on watch.
