@paulaustinmurphy I agree that labels are useful, but say that trying to take the wide range of political thought and theory, and reduce that to just a 'left' bucket and a 'right' bucket is ridiculous and just causes endless confusion

@paulaustinmurphy I say we do have a problem with terms being meaningless, and a lot of it comes from people using terms pejoratively and inaccurately You mention liberal, and I do think liberal is losing useful value, as it gets used by authoritarians to mean "anything I don't like". To be clear and fair, this isn't unique to any one group, the word fascist has also been devalued by progressives to also mean "anything I don't like" People doing "vibes and tribes" political debate are a stain on politics across the whole spectrum

@paulaustinmurphy a lot of the devaluation comes from immature "my side is louder than yours" 'debate' My humble suggestion is to call out such behaviour, especially if it's from people who nominally agree with you, and give recognition to those who can present good arguments, especially if they oppose you Since we're here, debating healthily, in the comments below a video where people with very different positions debated healthily, I feel there is a growing appetite in the public for a better quality of civic discussion
