  2. Nationalism, like all authoritarian systems, is all about wanting someone to take all the scary complicated decisions away. While other politicians make things complicated and difficult (because that's the reality), the authoritarian makes it all sound simple I am trying to word this as diplomatically as possible, as I mean it as an observation not an insult. There's a natural synergy here. People who want complexity to go away won't be inclined to dig into the situation enough to see through the lies. There will always be a proportion of the population receptive to a plausible and upbeat lie
