@johndonson1603 really? So which one is going to renationalise the water companies?

There is a need for a traditionalist, small c conservative party in politics, even if that's not my party I sincerely believe it will be easier to build that party from scratch than redeem the Tories Alternatively, there's the possibility that Labour have become that small-c conservative party. Where would that leave the Tories?

I don't remember much pay restraint in the banks, after the people of the nation bailed the banks out Plenty of cuts and austerity for us, though!
4
I think Ray and Gove might share a habit...
4
@Andrew-rc3vh capitalism is buying everything until you have the monopoly. Welcome to capitalism!
4
Canute made a proclamation that he could control the tides to make a point to his sycophantic courtiers about the limits of worldly authority Rishi makes dumb proclamations because he's an idiot way out of his depth...
4
But it is about taking sides - I am on the side of civilisation, and both Hamas and Netanyahu's regime are on the other
4
Phil of A Different Bias did a good analysis in his video "Hints at a May election - but is it real" The super-short summary is the Tories have set up a few policies that sound really good, but won't hold up once applied. If they don't go for May, these cunning ruses all fall apart. Details of these in Phil's video if you want the full analysis!
4
If the Government says "this government will never give you a pay rise" the only sensible response is to want a different government It's not ideology, it's the common sense response to the government's negotiating position
4
@seang2700 This is the truth of it! Membership definitely made us more prosperous, but all the benefits got funnelled to a small number of people. That needs to change, independently of our relationship with the EU
4
@stewie7338 the Greens don't just have environmental policy. They also have great policies on housing and quality job creation too. They are a well rounded progressive party 🙂
4
The Tories needed to invest in fixing things 10 years ago. They might have made a difference if they invested 5 years ago It's too late now. They can't turn the country around in mere months, and their only choice is how gracefully or disgracefully they bow out
4
Horses don't understand the difference between "not my king" and "god save the king" If they can't cope with people shouting stuff, they shouldn't have been put in the middle of a noisy crowd
4
Heiniken don't personally come round and visit every single pub that they sell kegs to!
4
The VVD need to take some responsibility for this. They claimed they would make life better for ordinary people, and didn't deliver This is a failing common to many parties who advocate that empowering the individual is the path to prosperity, but when in power pull up the ladder and only empower their chums
4
One thing to note is how much warning Iran gave. If they intended maximum damage, they would have launched with as much secrecy as possible In as much as anything involving hundreds of leathal projectiles can be, this was a diplomatic statement. They wanted to get attention, but they left a door open for de-escalation If Iran wanted open war this would have been done in a very different manner
4
@SL-sd3sg shouting over people is what GBNews does when they know they haven't got anything else to counter with
4
The "problem" is manufactured by the Tory media, so the quickest way to solve the problem is for the media to stop talking about it If there is a real issue, it's a backlog of claims, which is solved by hiring more people to process the claims It is that simple
4
Moderation is all well and good for moderate problems. Are the problems we face merely moderate, though?
4
Indeed. Telegraph readers should be proud that their newspaper is respecting it's own principles!
4
@dogglebird4430you have a right to a basic bank account by law If you want one with the fancy bells and whistles, that's at the discretion of the institution in question Also ironic, the right to a bank account is one of those "EU laws" farage hates so much. He's been capaigning to remove the very right he is invoking here!
4
@massivehero4871 technically "apologist and propagandist for war criminals", but that can be a bit too wordy if it's not a formal statement in a court of law!
4
@StuartJ Applications are confidential, so we probably can't fact check who he has or has not applied to
4
Not all jewish people are greedy, selfish and money-obsessed, but some people who are greedy, selfish and money-obsessed are jewish Does 'being jewish' give the greedy, selfish and money obsessed a free pass from any scrutiny or criticism?
4
So let's talk about it If you don't want immigration, who do you propose fills our job vacancies? Are you going to force people out of retirement?
4
@massivehero4871 I am not a communist, but recently they've been putting forward a better argument than the status quo does I don't want pure communism, but we need to involve them in the discussion, as excluding them has not been good for our political debate
4
Sounds like you're trying to make bullying the victims fault. I don't agree with you there
4
Any plan so easily derailed wasn't much of a plan, was it?
3
The question of who investigates financial fraud is a bit of a technicality Whether an internal matter, or a response to a police investigation, the bank still needs to know the same facts either way. In a police investigation, they will be asking the bank more questions than they ask the individual Financial misdeeds are best caught early, too. Fraud prevented is better than trying to reclaim money that's already vanished
3
Our press and journalists need calling out too - how many of them were cheerleading the vandalism, all the way til things caught fire? In a sane world, us general public would never trust any of those publications ever again
3
The public were already suffering. The strikes are a tiny blip against thr spectacular waiting lists the Tories built up over 14 years!
3
Did you loot the Greggs, or the Shoezone?
3
@Shelley Lyme The Rwanda plan is basically the Madagascar plan. Do you know who's plan the Madagascar plan was?
3
Because if they cut it, they draw attention to it, and it's harder to reinstate it later This way keeps it largely invisible, especially when most of the press will happily ignore it
3
I am no fan of Streeting, and in fact I'm helping campaign against him in his constituency, but I will say it took Alan Milburn 10 years to fix the NHS last time, so I don't expect anyone to fix it any quicker this time
3
Le Pen might manage to outdo Liz Truss on the unrichment front...
3
and I know a few trans people. They're people
3
@lolwalters2936 I know you're joking about the general elections, but the 10 year anniversary of the referendum does sound like a good time to check back with the public and see how they feel now
3
@williampatrickfagan7590 No, we're the feudal state that needs fixing!
3
The ERG is loosely defined. If the broadest group votes against, that could be enough to break confidence in the givernment, but if it's only the very core ERG then it would be a minor backbench rebellion that won't be an issue Current gossip suggests it will only be the most stubborn few rebelling, so Sunak has probably kept the Party on the rails... for now
3
@dogglebird4430even Farage and Tice are saying it now, that's how bad Brexit is
3
Lineker, Rashford - can we just replace the government with former and current England players? Can't see how it could be worse than what we have now!
3
Pointing out that the needs of the economy should not be presumed ahead of time isn't being wooly. It merely acknowledges that setting numbers ahead of time is putting headlines ahead of effective policy We definitely need more effective policy, and less government by headlines!
3
I live in such a city, but sadly not such a country, it seems 🙁
3
@pamvarnsverry2444 if it reduces tax dodging, the reform could pay for itself 🙂
3
@fredatlas4396 I reckon there's a lot of people who care, but are utterly exhausted just surviving right now 🙁
3
I wish the Tories were on strike. They'd do less harm if they didn't turn up to work
3
why aren't millions of French people crossing then?
3
@Geffo555 That is something I fear. Labour's economic plans appear to be based on doing very little, and hoping private businesses make everything better But why would private businesses invest here when we have Ireland on one side, and the Netherlands on the other? People with more economics knowledge than me say we need a much more active approach to kickstart the UK, and Labour show every sign of being passive rather than proactive 🙁
3
@Geffo555 I'm not an ideological purist, it's pragmatism. Private companies aren't investing, so we can't assume they'll suddenly throw money at the UK We need the state to invest - not out of ideological purity, but because noone else will on the scale we need
