Based on the manifestos so far, it does look like Labour and the LibDems are fighting to be the successor in the centre right, which would give the Green party an opportunity to expand into the void on the left

Very true. Now, whatever rebuilding we want to do has to be done without most of the tools we'd want, as we sold them all off 🙁

I can see why the LibDems wouldn't want to be seen as a haven for large numbers of ex-Tories, but I'm convinced the only reason Rory Stewart isn't a LibDem already is he can't break the habit of seeing himself as a Tory

@ER1CwC Interesting and very credible point - maybe he could be joining the Starmerite flag-waving incarnation of the Labour party then, assuming this incarnation settles in as a long-term identity!
1
@ER1CwC agreed - like I said, it would have to last long enough to be established. If Rory's children take after their father, maybe they'll be future Labour MPs?

@ER1CwC never say never, but it feels like the left are done with Labour and largely joining the Greens. If Labour doesn't do something to recreate the broad church, I think this shift is permanent

I say the only person more dangerous than someone with an ideology is someone who claims to have none Everybody has one. If you think you don't, you have a big hole in your self awareness If you know you have one but wish to conceal it, then you're actively deceptive I'd much rather deal with people who can be open about where their priorities are!

@proteusnz99 definitely agree with that! Know your own ideology, but don't assume everyone else will share it 🙂
1
@proteusnz99 it's all part of self reflection on your ideological position 🙂 People rarely get everything perfect first time, after all
1
@proteusnz99 we have unfortunately aquired a myth that leaders can and should be near-perfect individuals who rarely are wrong, rather than desiring people who suspect they are wrong and intend to learn as much as possible to mitigate this It's a curious societal phenomenon!

Arguably we've been selling the family silver for decades. 2016 was where we had a choice - acknowledge the old cupboards were empty and start building something new, or double down on the denial...
