@Caitlin7142 You can make a new party, but growing it to the point it would be effective would take decades, maybe more Look at the Greens, and how long it has taken them to grow to the still modest level they are at now
11
True, but left wing politics is about sharing control wider, rather than letting a narrow few monopolise it
8
Did you not see the bit about upgrading the power grid just for Rishi's swimming pool? They can sort out infrastructure when it suits them, but ordinary people aren't important to Tories
7
We can blame her - you don't get to dodge liability for arson because you're a pyromaniac...
4
@BENTWOONEZERO Nowt wrong with higher taxes if they are spent right and you see the difference in schools, and hospitals, and know that you won't have a huge backlog if you need to renew your passport or driving licence!
3
Maybe that's the point? Scotland has a liferaft that England doesn't
3
Not true, most people want to do something with their life. I've been unemployed. I wasn't starving, but I was bored stupid People want to work, they just don't want to work for someone who is taking the piss
3
When you make Thatcher look moderate, you're far right
2
They are happening, along with more strikes than the news is showing The establishment are trying to ignore people, and hope we go away
2
It's massively right wing! Even when they raise taxes, they do it in the most right wing way possible, hammering wage earners, but letting landlords and shareholders off lightly That's not left-wing economics!
2
@cyrneco I'd say it's the other way around in Italy. The fact they still decide half the parliament via FPTP skews the results and gives the right far more influence than the straight popular mandate would give them
2
@cyrneco I did not realise Italy got through so many electoral systems, thanks for giving me a heads up! Didn't Berlusconi benefit from the system with the jackpot bonus for the largest party though, which also distorts the straight popular mandate?
2
@giovannipanzeri6431 when has there been a threat to the establishment in the UK or the USA? We have the choice of the establishment that will gently keep you down, or the establishment that will crush you harshly
2
Can we use clapping as a substitute for paying MP's wages? 😁
2
And their ability to spin terrible policies to the public as amazing solutions...
2
I wonder if we need to share leadership across more people? Having a single person above everyone else does seem to attract narcissists and egotists If all the cabinet were all equals, would you get a better kind of person attracted to the executive?
1
At the risk of being a bit rude and cheeky, insane idiocy seems to be a Tory thing nowadays!
1
@Ginger Ali a far right mindset blames minorities for everything, especially for problems actually created by the far right leaders themselves. It's scapegoating over problem solving
1
@dollydiddums7889 How many days of food do you have stockpiled, if all the supermarkets were shut for two weeks?
1
@dollydiddums7889 definitely getting mixed messages from you here
1
Would that be the same Oxbridge education that Truss and Kwarteng had?
1
We spend a lot less per head than America. Plenty of room to spend more without bankrupting the country!
1
@pencilpauli9442 The current system lets plenty of far-right MPs in under the Tory banner The left doesn't have half as much success getting MPs in via Labour
1
To adapt the old joke from American Politics One party wants to keep workers on the breadline, just about able to afford a roof and food, while the Tories want to work you to death and replace you when you fall
1
The Felixstowe dockers aren't public sector - you just don't see them on the news much because after the initial attempt to demonise them fell flat on it's face the media are trying to ignore strikes and hope they go away Don't believe that something doesn't exist just because the news ignores it!
1
Search for Rishi Sunak Tunbridge Wells if you haven't seen it
1
If we decide our boss isn't worth what they're paid, how do we replace our boss?
1
@stefanpietrzyk8079 so we're all supposed to become bosses? Quite apart from the scaling problem, not everyone has the savings to do that. Maybe more countries need something like Italian social cooperatives, that give tax breaks to a cooperative largely formed from the unemployed? We would need more initiatives like that to make it realistic for more people to be their own (cooperatively shared) boss
1
We need more grassroots politics and unions! There's two ways to build up support, one is a small number of rich backers to fund slick, carefully targeted media campaigns backed by client journalism The other is a large number of people working together. When you represent money, you work for the highest bidder. When you work for your community, you have different priorities
1
Have you seen the Make Votes Matter campaign? A different electoral system would make a small-c conservative party viable even when the dominant right wing opinion is something more radical and disruptive
1
@williamorchard3890 We need change in the electoral system! First Past the post makes it nigh impossible for new parties to grow, and makes politics here really stagnant 🙁
1
@williamorchard3890 After the last few years of "decisive" politics under a government with a massive majority, I am more than ready to try a bit of coalition government instead!
1
@williamorchard3890 Reform are pro-Proportional Representation, and take a generally right-wing position on the economy and on culture issues
1
Maybe tell the police, rather than random people on YouTube?
1
If the economy and public polling don't bounce back quickly and stay where the Tories want them to be, expect the blue on blue fighting to return, more vicious and brutal than before!
1
I believe there are many good journalists out there, but as Peter's story shows, they are being blocked by massively corrupt editors and owners We really need to take a close look at who owns our media, and how they influence the editorial position of the news they chose to run!
1
We don't elect the PM, we elect MPs. Whichever party has the most MPs in government puts their leader forward as PM If people don't like the Tory party choice for PM, they need to stop voting for Tory MPs in government!
