@Keith Raggett if CEOs could follow your advice on debt and modest living, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in!

@zillafunfun1576 it's everything to do with the issue. The government claim there's no money, yet look at all these very recent examples where they had no problem finding money for their chums...

@bobsmithy9024 That's just common sense negotiation. You don't set figures when you're not at the table, otherwise you're shooting yourself in the foot

Can't see that happening. The only reason the train companies are holding out is because the government is providing a bottomless slush fund to protect the company profits Even this government wouldn't want to do that for a strike that blocks petrol supplies. I am confident that without a bottomless money pit on the company side, a negotiated settlement would be found before strikes happen

At least the tree trunk wouldn't interrupt to spout nonsense!

National rail ran on a fraction of the budget that the private operators get If national rail had the money the government pumps into the private operators, it would be best in the world!

@hughshepherd6596 NR was given a shoestring budget, and ran a shoestring service, that's just common sense It's the increased budget that improved the railways, not the privatisation. All that adds is extra beurocracy for managing the franchises, and extra costs servicing the dividend payments

If you drive a train in London, you can't live in Scotland Surely that's just common sense?

@uniquevideosUk what's the difference in housing costs?
1
@uniquevideosUk point is nobody is going to choose to work in London if they can't pay the bills here! So the only way to keep a London train service is to pay London train staff a London wage. It's that or fix the London housing market, and I wouldn't know where to start on that one!
