  1. There isn't really a competitive market for power generation - competition would require redundant capacity, and who has the money to build power generators that might not get used? Better to have it publicly owned so at least there can be democratic accountability over how it is run

  5. Labour's plan to build a nationalised power generation company alongside the private ones is a good idea. As it grows, private companies will have to compete on price or go out of business. The national company may even get to buy out the competition for fair, maybe even firesale, prices
