Well that's easy - open a processing centre in France, and let valid asylum seekers travel on the ferry. Job done!

I would love to accept your challenge that the public support this! Sadly, the Tories won't call a general election 🙁

France is already housing many humanely, but a small number want to come here instead Are you saying we're less capable than France?
2
@Paopper what if France is already full?
2
@greentroll9326 why would I have to pay anything? Let them work so they can pay their own bills
2
@steventwine8705 we are short of workers, so we are not full
2
But only if they released a picture book version with big, easy to read letters
2
Because the Tories want photos of small boats for the newspapers, so they don't grant visas, not even temporary ones No visa, no plane
2
13 years of austerity will leave public services in a bad state
2
@Royboy don't need a spare room, they're going to get a job and pay their own bills
1
@Steven Twine they won't be given jobs, this isn't soviet Russia. They will apply for jobs, and find the one they are suited to do
1
@steventwine8705 I would assume they'll be starting in low skill, low risk jobs if they don't have a verifiable history. There may be some support needed with language, but probably less than you think - often the reason they want to come here rather than France is they speak English but no French
1
@steventwine8705 then they'll have to find other ways to prove competence and character, same as the rest of us do. Our society doesn't cut any of us much slack!
1
@paopper-ys7xj this is how conversations work - you read what people say, and the topic evolves as people add and expand ideas You should give it a go!
1
@paopper-ys7xj why would you assume that?
1
@Paopper what evidence is there they are passing through covertly? I also don't see anything wrong with having preferences in where to apply for asylum. It is the rest of your life - I can see why you'd choose somewhere that you already have friends or family, or a place where you already speak a bit of the language Very sensible things to consider, when you're probably going to be somewhere for the rest of your life

@notjustforhackers4252 which EU reg do you want to scrap first - holiday pay? Maternity leave? Want to understand your priorities better
