  3. But the scaling factors are not always used in all digits. How do you represent 1mm ? Is this 0.03937" ? When it comes to digital circuits, even intel and AMD change to Nanometers.

  4.  @marcovtjev  Exactly. But in the metric system, there are only integer multiple, actually only multiple of 10, also when going from length to volume or weight. That's why you never have rounding errors. Cause you never need to multiply or divide, you only move the period. Additionally they often use ½or ¾ and that would be even difficult to multiply by 10. 2¾*10 = 27½. Really looks like stone age. Even the Stock exchange is using this.
