@ernesto003plus that's Nonsense. Unless they blame you for not speaking english. But i travel all of europe without speaking most native languages and it works fine. It's more kind of optimism than forced expectation.

Just been to Luxemburg from Dresden, that's really not a daytrip or weekend trip. It's a 10 hour drive. In a daytrip you might reach any place inside germany. But there is nothing like a best central place in europe.

@Fuerwahrhalunke The discussed term was "considering disrepectful". This is going too far for me. Maybe I would consider it lazy. The thing is, as better you get along without speaking german, as less motivation, as less need you feel to do it. Rememebering the turkish immigrants in the 70ies, huge communities often make it unnecessary to learn german, especially the wifes never got contact with germans (they regred today), but disrespectful is the wrong term for this behaviour. I lived in Quebec for some time, first language french, but since I could communicate in English, I never learned french. And I don't feel myself as not showing respect to the country. This idea is not coming up inside me. But somebody pretending to not speak english, to make me feel bad, like you propose, that's really strange.
