But does any German ever think about it ? I never noticed, this would be reason for anything. Is the interest in Katharina the great different from Zar Peter I. , cause one was German the other was not ?

@lynnm6413 It's very intrusive, intimidating, inpolite to expect other persons to publicly talk about their deseases. You de-humanize the royal family. I don't see any respect to privacy in you. You proof, shielding is necessary.

The term "The British royal family" is hardly used in German, and you talk about it, as it would be the property of the Brits. That's not the case, it's more a world heritage like egyptian pyramids. Or if we compare it to another celebrity like Madonna, she is not perceived as American, it's a celebrity of the world. So first you divide the world in parts and then you wonder why one part is interested in another part ? Or does anybody perceive Einstein as German, or just as world heritage, a Person by itself.

@britingermany OK, just telling you I don't have this association or perception on most actors or singers I had to google where they are from. From what nation ever, they sing in English and I'm unable to distinguish accents. We also say the British revolution started capitalism, but only like "if they hadn't started it, somebody else had started it". Mankind made a step, not (only) Britains. It's history of civilisation. But you cannot see it, when you are too close. You apply too much logic, if you come up with duties and power and ownership. It's a bit like Jesus is no Israeli ;-) Place of living is unimportant for the world.

@britingermany more like I don't wonder people love Beethoven and. beeing born in germany is more a biografic fact, an attribute like his hair color. He has absolutly no relation to todays germany. Same is for rammstein, I would correct it from swiss to german, but not cause I' m german, just because it's wrong. It's not german property. Germans seem to have a special relation to identy. Most are not patriotic. Borders are meaningless. Is the Eiffel tower a landmark of Paris of france of europe or of the world? Everything is true. Cause its unique.

@britingermany it's the pomp and circumstance, the only monarchy with rituals and buildings from 16th century. Like living medeval history, the last living dinosaur. It's unique to the world.the actual function is meaningless. It's not a museum, it's alive.

But that's only an aspect for Brits, "how british is the king". It's a question asked nowhere in the world. It's like the question how much relation have todays egyptians to the pharaos. Do they identify with them, or not ? Nobody cares, nobody notices.
