Than , any xml-file is a file system for you, cause you can adress the element with a path.

The file system is also not any active component, it's just a concept.

Excactly, but not know it all, is just unresolved curiosity. If you know what you need to know, you are completly fine.

With moving, you mean they remove it locally ? Thats not the meaning of the term backup. And they remove files from the Backup without notice before ? I can't really believe it. Any other cloud Provider says ' space exceeded, cannot do more Backups '

The registry is only API and nothing else and never was. Nobody actually knows where the data is really stored, or writes procedures against manipulating bytes on the hard disk.

Doing assumptions, instead of asking questions can be good, if 99% of people answer the questions the same way, only the remaining 1% are in hazzle then. That's a long term and not so bad way for UI Design.

yes, although we see a return of config and ini files, with all the web-technology, in the mid 90ies, this mass of little files was considered bad style. Finding a value in an ini File, with first a path on the file system, then some structure inside the File, ist still more complicated. But people found it handy to be able to copy it place to place (host to host). That's something the registry isn't able to do - except inside a corporate windows ADS network.

It's good for lazy programmers, who don't provide a user-interface for rarely used settings, cause they know , in emergency, one can edit the registry. And the editing is more robust, as editing a text-file, as you said with "per line" security, but also just with the key-value pair, with some little type-security (more than nothing)
