During the marriage 1947 it was not so much in style to be German, that's why they tried kind of emphasized, he is not. Actually the Danish royalty is based in todays german territorry, the territorry just changed owner over centuries. None of prince Philips parents is born in Germany, but he went to school there. Same as they send people to school in switzerland today. On the other hand side, the german emperor was grandson to Queen victoria. So what.

What a stupid discussion and conclusion. We all derive from east Afrika but I cannot speak Suaheli. Germany was founded 1871 to begin with. To put everything before in the package "german history" was a nice work of Bismarck to establish a national identity. So nobody before 1871 was German. UK has done the same thing 1707. Before 1707 nobody was british.

Such a word really does only exist , or is commonly used in English. Cause outside UK/US bilungal is an exception, and 3 or 4 languages quiet common.

They are also, french, russian, spanish, danish, greek. So what. Noble people started moving around just earlier then common people.

English really don't seem to have any barriers in using language. Germans used to do that too, but stopped after 45.

But since marriage was common across europe in any direction, there is no way of saying he is of this or that anchestry. It's just the culture, of husbands bring it the family name, and Victoria was a woman. They don't bring more than the name, and Elisabeth made it a condition to the marriage, to not change name to Mountbatton.

@christopherbentley7289 Unfortunatly, I don't think people are making jokes, they are completly serious about it.
