You don't talk with your co-workers ? Have lunch together ? Things like that ? Usually thats the #1 way to make contacts. No, natives don't hang around with natives, but maybe with people they know since 10 years or longer ? As older people are, as more difficult it will be to join their social group. So people who don't know anybody, meet other people who don't know anybody, I would say. Foreigner or local doesn't make a difference.

For space technology your job market is the world. What else do you expect ? As more specialized you are, as more difficult you will find a job. As a civil engeneer or software engeneer you have no problem at all. The "unskilled" people we skill to be nurse or waiter. Having free universities in Germany and then leaving the country, might give you an advantage abroad. But that's tricking around.

@daospina3 That's a pity. But what you say, when I tell you , I'm German, working home alone, just talking with the neighbors or people in the restaurant, and co-workers on video-conference. Maybe the language bareer comes on top for you, but otherwise it's also not easy for Germans. If you look foreign, peoples first question would be "do you speak German" so this you have to break by just talking something maybe. Finding friends just seems to "happen", you cannot really enforce it.

You sound depressive and exaggerating. I have heared expats complaining, Germans speak too much english, they have no chance to learn German. Maybe you "suppose" the wrong people to speak english. The waiter in the countryside ? And you cannot always digitally reserve a table, cause reserving a table is the exception in most places, you just walk in. Prices depend on what you compare with, compared to east Europe it might be expensive.

@bsl025 on optic cables you don't have limited data. Thats mobile only. English on universities is rare, on schools it's common but no obligation. People who like it will maintain it. But the chance is 50/50 and i think it's a good ratio. Don't you think it's kind of arrogant to expect everybody to speak one special foreign language ?

How often did you invite them to your house to have a beer with you, or inspired them to go to cinema, or having a hike ? If you are waiting to be invited nothing will happen. At university it's harder than on a job, cause there is no need to talk with anybody. Actually you don't see who hard it is for a German to become friend for a German. You just assume this is easier. It's probably not.

Assumed order is, first the language, then the job. If you first have a job, and later learn the language, you are the exception. Usually exposing yourself to German friends, colleagues, having a social life, is the best support on integration.

Must have been a difficult business. But you are right, German administration is made for employees, not for entrepreneurs.

This is, if people cry for "justice" or "fairness". To hold a proof "we are fair" you need a lot of documentation. The should not be any "first come first serve" solution or things like that, it should be "transparent" and "conclusive". It's the people itself enforcing all these buraeucracy. Just they don't realize. I always remember at google streetmap. There are as many people complaining of not having it, as there are people who fight against it and want their house excluded from the map.

@FeelingShred you say something of "getting static" (no improvement) and you conclude a downfall ? We are in a retarded boom, industry cannot fullfill all requests, such as wanting more appartments, takes simply time to build them. And they cannot fullfull requests due to leak of workers, such as no construction workers able to build appartments, even if the money is available. So what have you lost in the last 10 years ? Appartment and job hopping is less easy ? So you lost options, but nothing real.

What is the worth of a skilled physician, if he cannot talk to the patients ? Close to nothing. As soon as you have customer contact, you need the language. So there is only some research job and IT-Nerds in the backoffice who might survive with english only.

You approach to buy a flat is very rare, no young German would consider that. But "working 7 years for only this" is kindo stupid or exotic. The idea is, you pay 25years, but only a decent share of your income to have a living. And remember you talk about a Bachelor, that's kind of "Half an engineer" in German view. If you go to US, compare the cost of living. Starting with the cost of an agg, proceeding to the cost of schools, universities, and housing. Not having any theatre or at least a bus stop. Not to talk about costs of health insurance ...

@bsl025 so how you got the idea "they are supposed to speak english" this is the case if somebody promised you they speak english! And i havent send a fax since 1995. Maybe you have special request to deal with authorities. And if germans get unlimited data, they quit their cable and stream 400G per month. That's why this is not offered. Population density is very high, That's why even if there is a maximum of antennas, they get short in frequences.

There are not so many skilled people, "hiking" around in the world, to look for a job. It's computer guys from Bangalore, Formerly Doktors from Syriah, ...that's it. And of course, from English speaking countries, people go to english speaking countries, from French speaking countries (in Afrika) people go to France. So Germany always has a handicap with the language. And Economy growing faster than population, is kind of a luxury problem. It means there is potential.

In high paid jobs, you negotiate individually, in lower paid jobs, people are thankful for not having to negotiate. So they get their yearly increase without asking the boss for it. And they are sure, the same job - same pay principle is fullfilled better. That's important to Germans. You may say unfortunatly.

Right, if you leave you find one thing that is better, and you discover other 10 things that is better. The differences are minor. People want to be picky, choose the best of this, and the best of that, without understanding things depend on each other. You cannot pay the taxes of Namibia and have the school or street quality of Germany.
