@evukelectricvehicles You are Russian I guess. Nobody has intentions to have a war against Russia. Europe was about to reduce armed forces due to not having a real threat. Russia is healing his inferiority complex by trying to grow. Already in WWII it was the only country increasing territorry with the war. They have kind of a paranoia in becoming bigger.

What has India to do with it ? But the urge for separatism of autonomy of certain provinces might be comparable. Many countries have such regions who want to go on their own and the main country is always trying to avoid it. Sudan and Ethiopia are the only once who actually did it, it recent years.

I voted to join the NATO, my country joined the NATO, and there was not the smallest advertisement of the NATO "Please join us" and there isn't up to today. Also not for Ukraine. It's the ukraine who wants to join, and all voices say, it will not happen in this century. It's Putins invented Paranoia. If one has the chance to join a larger community, or getting a big brother, why shouldn't they want it ? You imply the so called expansion is against the will of the people. This is not the case. Nowhere ever. You cannot name a single NATO country, every increased it's territorries or has shown any kind of interest to do so. Joining the NATO is like joining the AAA. Community is growing, you have support, nothing else will happen.

@metalsheep2857 that's your logic ? If 4 or more people say something, then it's the truth ? Religion work the same way .. or gossip. If "everybody " says it it must be true. It's absolutly racist to refuse peoples own free will, to say they are manipulated and brain-washed. But its a common narrative. Just give me one reason why not to join the Nato! Why should one deny military support, for the price of supporting others also. A case that never occured so far, cause nobody daered to attack. If Ukraine would have been member, they wouldn't have been attacked. And completly without any Military actions involved, Just by the threat.

@nosuchname7408 This is definition and intension of NATO. It's a mutual agreement between members to help each other in case of one is attacked. It's purely defensive. And of course many countries want to join such a strong community. I don't see any intention or strive to grow. No, Countries want to join ! Voluntarily. Everybody is happy to join. You think Poland and Estland got paied to join, or what weired idea is in peoples mind ? As "project" or "war games" you can invent any kind of scenarios. Maybe they had a game to attack Aliens in Marocco. That's meaningless. Of course for long time, during cold war, Russia or USSR was the assumed enemy. As you say your paper is from 1996. Meanwhile it was pretty relaxed, Europe did reduce it's armies enourmously, US complained. Europe thought Russia would be peaceful- now it has proven it is not. No they restart armement. Around year 2000 Putin was a "real good friend", companies invested in Russia, trade with russia were intensified, pipelines were built. No Russia , no Putin turns nuts, with the wish to found a new empire. Any reason given is made up. The idea of "Russia is where Russians are" is medieval. In this idea, the republic of Ireland owns Manhattan, cause there live a lot of people from Irish descent. It's just nuts.

@vitmast5262 This was not "the West", it was Germany. And russia allied with the West to fight it. Sure I think borders are legit. What's the difference to Alaska ? Or to Kaliningrad. Or why don't they fight Estland ? Having common borders is not a big deal. You conclude from common borders to an increased thread ? And once again: Nobody is "coming". A souvereign country is joining a community. If Ukraine would have been in the NATO everything would be completly peaceful. As peaceful as it is in Estland. Entire Europe was about to disarm more and more. Now Russia is causing to invest in military again.
