Well, it's more cause Americans who claim to themselves "I'm German" do not necessarily speak German. America is kind of the only land, where everybody has two nationalities.

why do you focus on young americans? Have the young Americans of 40 years ago, the 60 year olds of today, been any different ?

In different languages, you call every single item in the world by a different name. It's really weird to expect an exception on language names. Why you don't wonder, the chinese call a dog not a dog.

@anta3612 Completly right, it just gives no idea, whether we are talking months or years here. It's the same with any education, with your entire school knowledge, if you don't use it, you loose it.

@kevinerskine3299 But living for long time in a place, and never travel, are different pair of shoes. Where is the curiosity ? The wish to get around and learn new things. The weird thing is, it's from descendents of migrants, from people who were open mindet to try another place.

Just ask the same question twice and this proofs wrong.

There is no copyright on this glyph. Very simple. And you could only claim copyright for everybody or nobody. You cannot distinguish by country or institution.

What is "quickly" ? It starts after 20-30 years I would say. It might be faster for children, cause the language is not completly settled up to 14.

@manwithpencil If they do not try, they cannot have failed. Germans also don't know the actual president or voltage in Argentina. They just have other preferences in their common knowledge.

@fredkrissman6527 This "wake up" phrase and seeing a crisis everywhere, identifies you as someone from the right wing. Connecting gen theory with this, fits quiet well.

No, any "why is it not everywhere the same" question is stupid. It's like asking "why they don't speak German in France" ?

There have not been much rules, on how to pass each other on a horseback. The need of a rule came up with increasing traffic. On the first car, the driver was placed in the middle of the vehicle, as on any coach.

This question is not so obvious, since not every food chain, is present worldwide.

@nunyabiz012 And this is different from Wal-Mart or Standard-Oil ? It's so much common knowledge they are present in every country in the world ?
1
@nunyabiz012 I'm just in doubt, the information what company is in what country is common knowledge. Your statement is, everybody is supposed to know, what you know. You want to make me feel ashamed, if I ask if McD is present in Chile ? At some point in time, if you are unsure, you can ask. It's another level than "do you have electricity". We are not talking about people knowing the size of economics. Relating the Hamburger to hamburg is really as stupid as relating the Jeans to Genoa. It's actually both the same story.

Maybe a geography student came in contact with the term Eurasia and got it wrong ?
