  1. That's a crazy example Feli has choosen. Yes for 100K you pay 33%, but 90% of people don't make 100K. Average is less than 50K and there you pay around 22-25%. Not so much different from US. The " feeling " of 50% is created by adding health insurance and pension contribution to it.

  2.  @Anon54387  It's a very economic approach, to relate total national tax to GDP. Here it was only about income tax, and the comment was about families. Tax is about 1 billion of 4,5 billion GDP, so with 22% that's not really much higher than in US. Sure, you as a nation can decide to not give out welfare checks to homeless and unemployed, this will lower the tax a little. The topic of the comment was: The marriage status plays a role in taxing. In US, it does not lower your tax, if you marry.

  3. After surgery and 3 days in hospital, the Hospital charged around 7000€ to my insurance in germany. Just to give you an idea about the pricing. 7 stitches and an ambulance would probably be around 800€. Doctors charge around 40€/15 minutes or 100€/ hour.

  4.  @Zayphar  The system is pretty much the same as in US. Just the numbers are different. And if you have a steady job all year around with the same employer, the employer is doing most of the paperwork for you. But additionally what the video is about, is why people understand by "taxes". Many don't sepearate with fees and charges, this makes the tax look higher, if you just drop numbers in a talk among hillbillies.

  5.  @thedude5040  What crazy conclusion. When I need 1 year to build a house, I'm an idiot, an if I need 1 day I'm an expert or what ? I'm self employed and it depends on how much of your accounting you consider as "doing taxes". There is no other reason for accounting, than the taxes actually. And I keep repeating, for employees it's faster, they pass through the numbers from the employer. In the easiest case they just say "I don't want to deduct anything, sign and go". Actually in this week I'm making money, by saving 2000€ taxes eventually. How can this be a waste of time ? Adding fuel bills, estimate the electricity for hoovering the office, telephone bills, ...takes it's time. Others use consultants, that's the stupid people, but not the people who do it themselves. Sure you can become consultant yourself, when it's your daily business you will be faster, if you do it once a year, you are slower.

  6. Feli explained it so nicely at around 3:30. It is very hard to ever pay 42% in taxes unless you make >600K/year. On 100K you pay 33%, as Feli explained. On 15K you pay zero taxes, but yes, you have to make an advance deposit and get it back later on. It's a problem of liquidity, not of costs.

  7. The benefits have nothing to do with paid taxes. Maybe you got that wrong. You pay tax + insurance. Tax is for society, insurance is for yourself, but people often tend to sum it up. While people in US don't some up their 10 payments to 10 institutions.

  9. That's really Nonsense, there is absolutly no relation to the number of people. Everybody pays for himself. If at all, the relation from poor to rich people is an important factor. Europe has a higher level of equality.

  12. @ so what ? I need a full week, what's this important for ? Where have you got this "struggle" from ? It's an unpleasant job, like cleaning the toilet, but you don't struggle. As more you know, as more you think. Very normal. If you are stupid, you can do it in 5minutes, and have no worries, that would be a relief. (in most easy cases of a full time employee, it can be really that fast)

  14. No, it's not. It's per person. Nobody compared numbers like the GDP, it's all per capita and that's the correct way of comparing. US has more domestic flights, that's the only difference resulting from size.

  19. Like a date for a psychiatrist, can take months, yes. They make sure, you are not in danger to kill yourself immediatly, otherwise you wait. For a dentist you might get an appointment for next week, without emergency. It all depends on the local setup with doctors. Some have a shortage in optometrists, another region with urologist. You can compensate by driving more miles mostly.

  20. No, it doesn't. The online calculator takes this in consideration. That's why you come out with 33% at 100K. The first 14.6 is not called a deduction. Deduction is, if you reduce your taxable income. The "existence minimum" of 14.6 is taxable income, taxed at 0%. That's different. You cannot deduct and tax at 0% at the same time, that doesn't make any sense.

  21. But insurance is not taxes !!!! And no , the employer doesn't pay taxes for you, he pays insurances for you. Pension fond is not called a tax !!! This is what this video is about. Yes you pay 50% to different institutions, but it's not taxes.

Many don't separate in taxes and insurances cause they don't pay it themselves. For them, everything reducing the monthly payment is just one big block of numbers on a piece of paper. I'm not sure if US people pay all of this manually themselves. In europe you never have this money on your account.

  24. No, why should health insurance be included, but not your fire insurance or car insurance. That does not make any sense. It's expenses for yourself. Taxation is for the society. The only thing these two have in common, is that it's income dependent.

  26. yes, but that's not the point of this video, this was about income tax. Nobody cares for VAT. If a company is raising prices by 20% to have more profit, or the state is adding 20%, what's the difference ? There isn't any.

  30. There is a double taxation agreement between US and Germany, and usually money made in US is taxed in US. If you just move, you are more or less like a tourist. You don't get anything. If you want benefits, you need to have a job in Germany. This statement is even valid for Germans. You don't get it just for living here. To get a pension, you have to have a job for a minimum of 5 years. So a housewife, without a job, doesn't get a cent. Citizenship only qualifies for social welfare, if you are very very poor.
