  1.  @CatFish107  You can do with your property whatever you want. A basic principle in capitalism. And nobody talks about people owning 2-3 appartments without renting them out. Do you also want people to give away their cars, if they don't use it for 2 weeks ?

  2.  @CatFish107  No. if you need the appartment yourself, for 2-3 weeks per year, you do the best you can do. In many countries long-term renting is especially protected by law, so once you let people in - you never get them out again.

  3. Spare rooms are the exception in offer and demand. 95% are complete appartments. To rent them out, also on the internet, existed before. The only new thing of AirBnB in the market is the worldwide platform, backpackers love it. I'm renting out 2 appartments, and while national platforms bring in the retired couple or so, AirBnB brings people from Russia, Argentine or the easter islands. I canceled membership, cause 2-3 bookings per year are just not worth the effort of handling multiple platforms.

  6. Sure, but we have 200 countries in the world, and you can't say where this is the case, where not. So the "should" might be inappropriate, if it already is. But renting out rooms or appartments is a business since begin of railway, beginning in 1860 or so, without beeing a Hotel. That's why many countries have special regulations if you have less than 5 beds or so.

  7.  @harrisaxer2651  I know, they try to avoid AirBnB since years, but they have absolutly no success. The only result is, the appartments stay empty. Hotels have not really a huge lobby. Renters are, they have votes on the election. But in no country in the world, exists something like a duty to rent out. Simpathies for sponsors or people giving money or warm soup to the poor are always understandable. But on a permanent monthly basis, this is rare. Vienna is doing good in this, there a huge part of appartments is city owned. That's their solution. Why should anybody build a new house, if people make it so complicated to earn money with them ? Nobody does. You have no sympathies, so they don't invest their money. It fires back. And the result is no mood to build new houses, missing houses, raising rent due to high demand.
