  1. No, it's the opposite. Houses are built to not survive a Tornado, although they could. Each concrete structure could withstand. But they build wooden houses, just to keep it cheap. And on the outside they plaster fake bricks, and fake this and fake that, just for the illusion. But you are right, people don't really develop a legacy with their home, like "that's our home for generations". They easily move away.

  2. Those "Land developers", creating entire suburbs, are unique to USA. One reason is the space available. Other countries have simply no room to expand the city. They increase population density by going up.

  3. Right, and this can be observed in this extent nowhere in world, except in US. (And in some slums maybe, they are also not built to last).
