Comments by "Holger P." (@holger_p) on "German learns about 105 US Genders" video.
Did it happen in English or Geman ? I think Germans are more relaxed cause they don't mind to correct you, that's everyday part of language. But Americans feel offended by beeing corrected and have a moral dilemma to stay polite. If you are not allowed to be corrected, you need to prohibit assumptions and ask each individual. It's completly logical, but also very unefficient and unpractical.

If an educated guess is 95% right, it's OK to use this guess, you don't need to ask. The 5% leftovers can correct you, but shouldn't feel blamed. I'm gay and I don't mind at all, somebody assuming I'm straight. I will correct them if I want to. Ah ... maybe that's the problem ... in America correcting somebody is a blame by itself ...that's a dilemma.

Don't mind 105 genders, but expecting other to know all of them, and feeling assaulted when not knowing or assuming, this is what's over the top.

Sometimes there is the brain or hormone setup of a women, put into a men. It's hard to grasp. As hard as the difference from bad mood to depression.

No, there is absolutly nothing slippery in it. It's a problem of English language inside US. Nobody else at another place on earth or with another language has said something like "don't assume my gender". The audience are people, who have never heared of people picking their pronouns, without explanation this sounds quiet weird. It's like people are searching activly for a reason to be blamed. They want to have a bad day by having bad mood ? It's like private people reporting others who park their car in the wrong spot. They have fun in doing reports.

There is absolutly no language or blame protection. And if one persons feels blamed, they might report it, but cases of won trials concerning gender are not know. Especially making wrong assumptions is absolutly no problem, part of everyday life.

This has nothing to do with cis people. I'm gay and don't understand it either. Yes, it's funny if people invent genders. I accept "Non-binary" but any further disambiguation is not anything I want to be forced to know. People run around with "I feel blamed, you are inpolite, I feel assaulted", that's really nuts.Maybe people have fun in feeling assaulted, I have no idea what this could be good for. For a german it's already complicated enough, to hear the word "friend" without knowing if it's boy or girl. Not even the binary sex is clear. This 'neutral' concept simply does not exist in other languages.

@yoknom But that's the other direction, it's "including all in one form" it's not "distinguish 105 forms".

I think you don't get it. The humour is from the view of people who never heared about this topic anything at all. There is no foundation to do any discussion, or to be hardliner or softliner. Imagine you explain this to people from Mars ... then you get the humour.
1
How many other languages did you compare with ? Since Latin America includes Spain and Portuguese, we don't even know what language you are talking about. You forgot to mention.
1
Non-Americans don't understand much, cause this is not really spreaded by the news. Would have been good to have a look into these 105 pronouns, to know what they are talking about. I stop with him and her.
1
No, it's not about folks picking pronouns, it's about the rest of the world, not taking notice of this discussion inside US. It's a sketch about the American view or idea, the entire world knows what America is doing, or against America setting standards. I actually never heared of these new pronouns. This is not made up by Radical Living.

No. Some forms have to be in "Male/Female/Divers" but the latter is not further specified. Especially "making assumptions is inpolite" is the thing, that drives this discussion in US. No, you assume, you are correct in 99.5% of cases, in 0.5% you are corrected and go ahead. Maybe because correcting somebody is not considered inpolite the topic cannot exist. Everybody is correcting everybody every few minutes.
1
That's not the topic here, it's about language and/or identity.
1
@steve3131 no cause it did only change sex, the idea of non binary didn't came up.
1
immutable yes, but you can make mistakes in finding out the real one and correct yourself. It's like 2+2=4. It's immutable. But if you first say 2+2=3, you have to correct your statement and change your mind.
1
No, not this one, just a discussion if the plural of actress is actresses or actors, and if actors include actresses or not.
1
Right, nobody is making up pronouns, and having assumptions is no assault.
1
First, where can you talk to them ? Never met one all my life. And Second: It has to be in English language. Don't know if this is possible in German or French grammarwise.
1
What other channel did you take off your list ? Was this one on your bucket list, now you've seen it, and took it off ?
1
Exactly, and picking one of these 3 might still be OK, but inventing new ones - that's a NoGo.
1
Do you think the Americans are disgusting, with their pronoun thing, or the German is disgusting by not knowing anything about it ? Actually you don't say anything, don't address anybody, hence nobody can possibly know what you are talking about.

He wasn't even alive at WW2. And who is the creditor ?
1
No, it's not funny. It's like with the gays. The term used "they were in the closet", now you are wondering they come out all at once. It's the same as let's say MeToo. Was going on for 20-30years, but needed a sparkle to inflame a debate.
