  1. No, people wrote with chalk on a wipable board. Not even paper was needed. Alternativly they used a pen nib and liquid ink.

  2. Never seen it life, never used it. Maybe I'm in a too rich country ? For 0.50€ you also get a pen with immersible ballpoint. Most often for free, if there is advertisement on it.

  3.  @primalspace  Germany, probably they are for sale, on the lowest shelf, but never ever saw a pen with a removable cap. I would loose it within a day I guess. Ours all have this little click-mechanism inside. If I check at amazon, it's really a difference from 0.25 (Bic Pen) to 0.35, if you buy 100 pieces. A scoopeof ice cream or 1kg of sugar is 1.50€. It's not that people couldn't afford a pen for 1.50€ also. There is no reason to buy this ultra cheap thing. Its not a "revolution". In school, ballpoint pen are strictly forbidden, at least in elementary.
