If you want it warm, take porridge, just oats, good nutrition, fills you up till lunch. If you like it cold, just take muesli, like Bircher, it's oats again, with little nuts and fruits, with yoghurt or milk. That's absolutly fastest - and close to american style. But please no Corn Flakes, Frosties, Froot Loops or whatever modified and sugared so called cereals. Actually in central/south Europe nobody is starting the day with cooking - they start with eating ;-) It's mostly sandwiches, not necessarily croissant with jam.
