  1. Nobody would buy a $1 book with $7 shipping. The other option is putting it to garbage, which he wants to avoid emotionally. So maybe he is willing to pay something (to loose money) to get the books to somebody who likes them.

  2. Today people just read Blogs and Online-Articles, no books. And if they use books, there are so many, none ever can outperform the early books.
