  1. A country with low birthrate needs immigration, just to have enough workers for all the jobs. There is no way around it. The biggest advantage of UK is the low language bareer, since so many people are able to speak English. Not sure they are aware of this, it's not any benefits, it's the language.

With the argument "we want control back", each little village can declare "we are our own kingdom now", And they found an Army, and have an authority to license medicine, and they make their own currency. But this is not and advantage. The advantage is if you talk with your neighbors and arrange "let's do things the same way", it's easier for all. This includes, to be unable to make one sided changes on your own.
