I was jumping for joy when I sold our house for double what we paid for it. However, after using an on line inflation calculator, I found out that I barely made a profit over the 17 years of ownership. It was still good living, just not the windfall that I expected.

@WordMadeFlesh777 I agree. I hit 71 this year and decided it was about time that we concentrated more on spending money than making more. We sold and moved to an over 55 apartment complex and we're happy with our new neighbors and apartment. You were smart to invest in an expensive home that had really good appreciation. Ours was 140 bought and 220 selling, so not a high end home. We were experts at saving and investing....now we want to be experts at enjoying life and travel. 🥳 But again, the best of luck with your properties!!

@Pragmatist1st But what if you improved it? So, if you put $3000 into landscaping then you shouldn't realize a profit? (adjusted for inflation). If that's what you're saying, then why improve the property? When the neighbors see your improvements and do the same, property values rise. Is that unfair or "part of the problem"?
