  1. Westerners don't understand. Xi is not stupid. He intended to (and did) decouple from the West's financial influence. He saw the power of sanctions over Russia and was determined not to allow that to happen to China. no matter what the cost He wants China to be self dependent and is willing to endure "another long march" to move it's economy into a self reliant mode, and reduce not only Western influence but Chinese financial titans as well (think Jack Ma) All of this in a long range plan to take Taiwan and capture the entire region as it's sphere of influence.

  2. BS!! Xi said from the beginning TWO POINTS that explains everything. First, he wants an independent economy. One not reliant on outside countries AND THEIR SANCTIONS. Next, he told his people to "be ready for the long march" in other words, the pain of decoupling. He's not concerned with the next five years. He's looking out the next FORTY YEARS.
