THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS with an economic genius in the White House (waving a magic wand)... This new aluminum plant is not the only example of how Trump’s tariffs and tax policies are strengthening our manufacturing and defense industrial base and lifting the fortunes of America’s working men and women. Following the imposition of tariffs, U.S. Steel announced it would restart its steel-making facilities and one blast furnace at an Illinois plant. Century Aluminum Co. announced a nearly $120 million investment to expand and modernize a smelter in nearby Hawesville, Ky., that had its production decreased to 40% since 2015. Alcoa will reopen an idle smelter in Indiana. Steelmakers Nucor and Commercial Metalswill build new mills in Missouri and Oklahoma, respectively. Trump has also provided relief to the U.S. washing machine and solar industry by imposing steep tariffs. Critics at the time warned the move would hurt consumers, but the tariffs have been a boon to the U.S. worker. Whirlpool said it would add 200 jobs at its Ohio plant after the announcement, the South Korean manufacturer Samsung opened its first plant in South Carolina, and LG Electronics broke ground on a 310-acre site in Tennessee — their washers will be made with American hands.

@michaelfreeman6651 Here's what YOU don't understand. Trump is NOT about your INTERNATIONAL corporation. He's about the WORKER. Not a foreign worker, but OUR workers. He's not about what your UNION BOSS tells you, but what YOU need to be concerned with. Now, let's educate YOU on the facts.. First.. Ford is using Trump as their whipping boy because their cars and trucks aren't selling........ At a time when automakers are scrambling to prepare for self-driving cars, Ford is also struggling to keep pace with the rest of the industry. September was a bad month for U.S. auto sales—with aggregate sales down 7%—but Ford’s drop off was even more severe. Ford said its sales of its vehicles declined 11.2% last month, with sales of its best-selling F-Series pickup trucks down 9%.

@michaelfreeman6651 SECOND..... HERE IS WHAT FORD EMPLOYEES ARE SAYING ABOUT WHO IS TO BLAME........ Ford Layoff Questions or Rumors? All you'll find is silence! Nobody is getting any answers from Hackett until "the time is appropriate". Much like his CEO history with Steelcase. If you read his past and how he made Steelcase a profitable company you would have learned he is a Consolidator. He cut 12,000 jobs and closed half their plants. His goal was to reduce wasted space and unfortunately it's my belief he will do the same with Ford Motor Company. Yes, he doesnt come from an automotive background but if you are cleaning up, cutting cost and eliminating non-maximized workspace you dont need to have that particular background. The best thing we (employees) can do is save some money... update our resumes and wait for the announcement we know is coming. Good luck to you and I hope your plant survives...

We voted for him and will get him elected AGAIN in 2020!! He's the best we've ever had!

@joe7665 it's because "people like you" are young morons that barely know how to wipe their ass! When you open your mouth, something stupid comes out. You don't educate yourself, you just act like a puppet.

If we catch cold.... China gets pneumonia!! If we have impact, it will be over Chinese bodies.

goff0103 I retired at 40 and never had to work another day.

goff0103 Yeah, go ahead and keep thinking that. Billionaires WISH they had it as easy and comfortable as me. I'm FREE with all the time and money that even an extra billion can't buy.

megakids No, don't worry about Mexico OR Canada, it's China that is going to collapse.

These are the classic "useful idiots" that are here to influence our politics. None of these cork suggers voted Republican anyway. Trump put MILLIONS of people to work, and these jerks are too impatient to give Trump some time to fight the criminals in Beijing.

@michaelfreeman6651 FINALLY.. THESE CUTS ARE NOT FROM THE USA, but from their GLOBAL workforce.... In a note last month, Morgan Stanley wrote: "At this stage, we have assumed global headcount reduction of approximately 12 percent" — roughly 24,000 of Ford's 202,000 global workforce. "Such a magnitude of reduction is not without precedent in the auto industry.” NOW READ THE TRUTH AND STOP BLAMING TRUMP!!..... https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2018/09/07/how-ford-tackling-its-restructuring/1214926002/

thewanderandhiscomp Listen dopey. YOU might have your clueless friends believe that, but I KNOW that they were low wage, massage parlor, burger flipper, nail salon jobs. People were holding TWO jobs just to make it. Wages are RISING NOW. Competition for workers (now that illegals are leaving, are driving wages UP. I'm telling you EVERY economic indicator is going through the roof! Look it up! People are WORKING, not getting welfare.

@selah71 No.. He said they "are opening" not that they HAD OPENED THEM. https://www.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/news/2018/08/04/fact-checkers-doubt-trumps-claim-on-new-u-s-steel.html

@selah71 Spot-market sheet-steel prices have risen more about 37% since October to about $810 a ton, according to industry surveys. The premium that U.S. customers pay for aluminum deliveries has also increased. As a result, some companies were planning to expand U.S. production even before Mr. Trump’s new tariff plans.Alcoa Corp. plans to reopen part of an idle smelter in southern Indiana this spring. Luxembourg-based TenarisSA opened a mill near Houston late last year to make pipe for natural-gas and oil fracking wells. Startup Big River Stee l LLC, in Osceola, Ark., accelerated production in 2017 at one of the largest sheet mills to be built in the U.S. in years. Steelmakers Nucor Corp. andCommercial Metals Co. are planning to build small mills in Missouri and Oklahoma to supply the steel reinforcing bar used in concrete for construction. Rebar and well pipe are among the steel products that have faced some of the heaviest competition recently against cheap imports from countries, particularly South Korea and Turkey.

thewanderandhiscomp That's dated AUGUST 10 th. Wage growth is determined on an AVERAGE. Burger flippers might get a 2% raise and skilled trades 5%. Same goes for inflation. It's determined by a basket of goods and services that not everyone is affected by. Why not look at restaurants? That tells how much extra money consumers have, AND THEY'RE BOOMING! The Washington Post is a left leaning Democrat shill. Just to prove it to you.. Find me ONE ARTICLE BY THEM that credits Trump fir anything. Send me the link.

@mark loper Mark, you're so clueless about our economy it's amazing. You think giving money to people helps the country? So they can do WHAT with the money? Send it to China? You help corporations that are being CRUSHED by Chinese thievery. Those stock buybacks help COUNTLESS millions who are saving in the stock market for their retirement. YOU'LL BE SAVING TOO you idiot. Now, if he cuts everyone's tax ten percent and THEY PAY ten thousand, while YOU PAY only a thousand, then they get one grand back and YOU get a hundred. Is that difficult for you to understand? Now look this up.. The TOP ONE PERCENT pay how much of ALL tax collected.. Look it up dopey. EIGHTY PERCENT!! The working man got nothing, because he isn't paying anything! You're seriously confused.
1
@mark loper You're a lying nit wit. THEY'RE STILL HERE. LOOK IT UP. They downsized, but hundreds of jobs are still here. The UNION run them out of the country (like so many other jobs) not Trump.
