I feel like Hayden got done a bit dirty by a really bad script. I honestly don't know the quality of his acting chops, I haven't seen him in anything else. But I know that Portman and McGregor, Jackson, Christopher god's damned Lee... these people are incredible actors. And even there performance in those films often seemed stilted and flat. Great directors can get amazing performances out of even middling actors. You can definitely make an argument for the prequels being underrated but I think we also need to acknowledge that the script was pretty bad and it doesn't seem like a lot of effort was made to pull quality performers from ANY of the cast. I wish I could have seen Hayden have a fair run at it, instead of being made to deliver some of the worst romantic lines ever.
