  1. I think this 'need' for characters to be relatable is flawed. Most of us live relatively narrow lives. Dumbing characters down to fit into that narrow perspective results in a lot of generic, dull characters. Why should we be able to relate to a character like Superman? Why is that important? Rather than have characters who expand our world views we instead get ones who pander to them.
