@ADHDSUZUKI That could easily become counterproductive, harsher sentences can actually result in escalating crimes.
Take the following hypothetical, let's says theft is a 1 year sentence, assault is 10 years and murder is life.
Murders are rare, assaults are thankfully uncommon but theft is still too high. So you raise the sentence for theft to 10 years, same as assault. Should stop the thefts, right?
Except now, a lot of thieves reason that theft is easier if you rough up your victim first, and since the sentence is the same either way, they might as well. Right?
So now you make assault a life sentence. That'll do it! Except no... now you've almost guaranteed that every assault ends in murder since its the same sentence, but one doesn't leave a witness...
