You live in the here-and-now, so considering future challenges in order to be prepared to meet them... that's not something you'd do. And FYI, I don't like avocados. You wouldn't have made that erroneous assumption if you were living in the here-and-now, instead of speculating about the there-and-then.

  8. It's not that simple. Let's say country A produces a third of the industrial pollution as country B. Looking pretty straightforward, yeah? But country A also outsources 70% of its manufacturing to country B. In addition to this, country A also has half the population. Suddenly country A isn't looking so clean. This is just a hypothetical, but the principle within helps give a much more complete and nuanced understanding of the problem.

  17. It's not over-population, it's over-consumption. If it was purely population based, you'd see a direct correlation between population and pollution.

If what you're saying is true, then somewhere with a higher population will always have higher emissions than somewhere with a lower population. And the data simply does not support that. All humans consume but some consume much more than others. Does the couple living in a small one-bedroom flat, who don't own a telly or a car, consume as much as the couple who live in a three bedroom townhouse, have a telly in every room and own two cars?
