@Yourordinaryuser_ The idea that Trump was responsible for that is laughable. Encomies are affected by myriad factors over long periods of time, the actions of one administration rarely have positive outcomes in the short term.

@Yourordinaryuser_ It's an accurate statement. A president inherits their economy from previous administrations, not just those of their own nation, and set the field for those to come.

@Yourordinaryuser_ Yes. It also massively reduces funding available for infrastructure and public service spending. And Reagan didn't just cut taxes, he increased defence spending. That's burning the candle at both ends, what do you think that does? He widened the income gap, nerfing economic mobility, and tripled the national debt. So many of the problems the US has with funding goes back to that short-sighted decision.

@Yourordinaryuser_ Funny you mention Trump's tax cuts. There's a great read on the Center For American Progress, "Tax Cuts Are Primarily Responsible For The Increasing Debt Ratio". I'm not gonna regurgitate the whole piece to you, that'd be pointless and I really recommend giving it a read, but the salient point is "If not for the Bush tax cuts and their extensions—as well as the Trump tax cuts—revenues would be on track to keep pace with spending indefinitely, and the debt ratio would be declining. Instead, these tax cuts have added $10 trillion to the debt since their enactment and are responsible for 57 percent of the increase in the debt ratio since 2001, and more than 90 percent of the increase in the debt ratio if the one-time costs of bills responding to COVID-19 and the Great Recession are excluded. Eventually, the tax cuts are projected to grow to more than 100 percent of the increase." Great tax cuts, eh? As for the rest of your argument, an increase is an increase at a time when you're cutting taxes. It's a short-sighted decision based on greed. And if you don't know what's wrong with income inequality, you haven't been paying attention. The more it grows, the more it creates unsustainable imbalance within a society before beginning to implode. We're seeing that happen now.
