@faithingod5533 Absolutely. He accurately compared the language and rhetoric being used, a comparison that the government was not happy to have pointed out.

@alexwatson5507 Please, don't be so childish. Lineker called out dangerous and hateful rhetoric used by our government and you're trying to pretend it was a call to violence. You're cynically trying to use murdered MPs to shut down government criticism. You should be ashamed of yourself.

@williamlightfoot5711 Are you on another planet? After all this, you think the bigger issue is that some TV presenters don't pronounce words quite how you'd like?

Speaking truth to power makes you strong, not weak.

@faithingod5533 Blatant attempt at misrepresentation. As I said, he commented on the language and rhetoric used. He didn't make a direct comparison between the circumstances. So you're being dishonest.
3
I thought the real issue was the actual policy that prompted Lineker's comments but no-one is talking about that...

@Monolithinteal Who said everyone must agree with him? The issue is that he shouldn't be muzzled for criticising our government.

@faithingod5533 No, don't duck out like a coward. Explain yourself, justify your point. What, in your eyes, was he doing with his comment?

@williamlightfoot5711 Anyone can have standards, based on a variety of factors. Honesty and integrity, for example. For you... Regional accents? That's not just snobbish, it's pathetic.
1
@williamlightfoot5711 You've definitely taken the term "standard" too literally for the context. We're not talking about standard settings on an appliance, we're talking about personal standards of language. They're personal because it's not something that's gonna be shared as soon as you travel a few miles from where you are. Also, you say that regional accents are fine and should be encouraged, then go on to say that not being able to pronounce something indicates low intelligence. Prouncing "bother" as "bovver" is entirely down to regional accents. Did you not know that? I think making arrogant and condescending statements that are fundamentally classist is the real indicator of low intellect. Smart people tend to know better.

@poolplayerpoolplayer7430 Lineker criticises our right wing government, said government is unhappy with that, suddenly the BBC is trying to pull Lineker from their show. So how have you come to the conclusion that there's no right wing representation within the BBC? And while you're pointing out facts, you might want to note that Lineker didn't actually call anyone Nazis. He simply pointed out the parallels in language used.

@ashroskell Think you've replied to the wrong person.

@poolplayerpoolplayer7430 Except we can all see your previous comments when you rather childishly fell back on insults and gloating. Bit hypocritical, hm?
