@Slow_Horse Sure. But Putin's gonna be looking over his shoulder from now on, if he wasn't already. One of his para-military leaders showed they could threaten his power and walk away with a pardon.

@poneill65 Yes, that all makes perfect sense. There's no other way Putin could have achieved those goals. He had to create a situation where it looks like his oldest allies can turn on him, spit in his eye with impunity, threaten him and then walk away without consequences. Where Putin started by promising punishment and then letting a third party mediate a deal to let the guy off, that will really dissuade any future mutiny. I reckon you've got it all figured out.

Not exactly. Prigozhin has challenged Putin's authority and seemingly been pardoned. If Putin gets rid of Shoigu too, that shows Prigozhin got what he wanted by threatening Putin without consequence. Putin isn't wielding ultimate power, it's tenuous.

@kmg474 If he had all the support, Prigozhin would already be dead. He's had to compromise.
