veteran0121 Straw man: an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not advanced by that opponent. Y'know, 'cos I was getting crazy talking about the colour of the sky. You made the decision that you're informed enough about an individual, who has said maybe around 100 words to you, to make a completely off the wall comparison about how I would react if the sky changed colour. And you're calling everyone else idiots? In your bloody minded desire to "win" you've acted like a colossal moron who's angry rants are more applicable to yourself than anyone else involved in this thread. You're so worked up about this that you can't even stick to facts. You are literally making stuff up to support your ego. Which is what this is all about now. Your ego. That's why you're gonna keep on without actually saying anything new. It's the internet equivalent of a toddler stamping their feet and having a tantrum. Toddle on, kiddo. Happy Solstice.

Saying that Jon should have made an effort to be clearer and firmer, to the Night's Watch, about why he was making these decisions would make him a better leader is a fairly solid point. It's a good leadership tip. Your point is "NO, NOTHING WOULD HAVE CHANGED BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE STUPID" and you insult and demean anyone disagreeing with you... well, you're certainly making yourself an example for your own lesson. I suppose if men of the Night's Watch share those traits with yourself then it likely wouldn't have changed anything. But this guy isn't stating "it would have been different if Jon had done X". He's saying that by not trying he is showing bad leadership skills. And I don't see how that can be argued against. It's elementary. Oh and would you look at that. The person with objectively bad leadership skills ended up being the victim of a mutiny that almost jeopardised everything. Who knew?

veteran0121 When you're leading people it's not enough to say things once. A point must be repeated, to quell doubts and silence dissenters. You ask how he came to power? On a rousing speech. He convinced them to go to Hardhome with a rousing speech. When they got back from Hardhome... nothing. When talking to Ollie... an overused metaphor. This is the point the video is making. It's very clear and I'm sorry it's not getting through.

veteran0121 It certainly isn't working for you. Keep trying though, eh? One day you might just convince someone you're worth carrying on with.

veteran0121 Now try saying that into a mirror and see how much more sense it makes.

"I know you won't be convinced by what I say because your ideology does not allow you to see beyond the bullshit you spew in your ideological echo chambers. One day maybe idiots like you will realize that you can't always make people agree with you." That's you, that is.

veteran0121 And that's a superb straw-man. Good fallacy.
