Confused Fox I think this says more about your own personal motivations and aspirations than anything. It would discourage you from progressing because you are incentivised by money and you view climbing on the social ladder as a priority in life. This social ladder is based upon the idea that having more than someone else makes you better, means you are a successful human. Maybe you don't think this but it really seems that way, based on your criticisms of the idea of UBI. The idea of which, by the way, is not to set everyone on the same level; though that could end up being a result depending on how it's implemented. It's to ensure that people can pay rent and buy food in a society where there simply are not enough jobs for the majority. Personally, I think you've been suckered in too much by the lures of capitalism and should re-assess the way you see and value human society.

Dr Schnozz PhD They don't need to. Take paintings as an example; fact is there are a limited number of combinations of colour, brush stroke, composition etc. Computers can and have analysed great works of art and are learning what makes them popular. They can replicate this. Same goes for music or novels. Art is not "safe".

Jan Cabudoy I don't think you understood the facts presented in this video. Not do anything? There won't be jobs to do. It's that simple. When that happens what then? No jobs means no wages. So people can't pay their rent or buy food. Quality of life plummets. At the same time people have no money to buy products so the companies using all this automation to create their products won't be able to sell them and they'll collapse. UBI is pretty much the only solution at present to avoiding this. Only problem is it really requires people to change their attitude regarding money. Won't be so hard for people already poor but for those who are currently among the truly wealthy... yeah, they're in for a shock...

+tasteedev Your idea for an amplified capitalist society is still centered around this idea that success as a human being is determined by material wealth. That's pretty fucked up and you can see this in the steady degradation in mental health in first world societies.

a legitimate name But that's not an actual scenario. For one thing, there's no such thing as limitless free time. We all die. And there are responsibilities beyond jobs. Past that there's the fact that... the benefit to self improvement is that you improve your self. I just... I can't understand where you're coming from, other than that you are projecting your own experiences onto literally everyone.

You're joking, right?

You haven't understood what Brian is saying then. AI can do certain codes better than humans. That will continue and improve till they can do all codes better than humans. At that point, why is a human needed to write the code that writes the code? Answer; they aren't needed ANYMORE, because they've already done it.

See, we always get fascist dictators who are obsessed with their ego, their wealth, their mums, their own genitals... can we get a fascist dictator who's obsessed with Kurzgesagt, with scientific progress and compassion for all living things? Force a bit of social awareness into people, strong-arm corporations into playing fair... Even just a Vetinari would be enough. Ah, to dream...

So... wouldn't it be simpler to just convert Mercury into a giant solar panel farm?
