They stood by him through his handling of covid and are complicit in the crony contracts for PPE that never delivered. He's broken all kinds of rules with his approach to the Ireland/Brexit problem, including the deal he set up and they backed him on that. They're just doing it for their careers.   16. Something my sister pointed out to me... the phrase "toxic masculinity" gets misused by writers so damn much and it sounds like an attack on men. A way of pointing at them and saying "you, you're the problem". But the actual full phrase is something like "the toxic expectations and pressures of masculinity on men"... and it's one of those things that really changes the whole meaning, it's actually something men are a victim of, it's about helping free men from these angry, repressed pigeonholes that we get put in.

You can claim to be this grand, charitable saintly figure who goes out of their way to adopt or donate or otherwise help people in need. And you don't have to do any of it. You're arguing for women to be forced to go through a horrendous and traumatic experience and it's easy, 'cos all you have to do is claim to be a paragon of virtue. But you don't actually have to do any of it. Your argument, the actions and qualities you claim to have, they're always exactly what you need to counter whatever's just been levelled at you. Your argument doesn't open with how you've adopted children out of those situations or a very vague and lazy figure that supposedly comes out of your salary to support charities. You'd think those factors would sit at the very foundation of your argument. Instead, they come up only when challenged. Because it's all lies, isn't it. If you're gonna make the argument that treatment access is not covered in all cases you should really cite some evidence beyond anecdotal. Simply saying "I know people" doesn't really cut it, not when you're also trying to slam other people for not having a rebuttal to your argument. Not sure I buy the second part of that either. It all depends on attitudes held towards trans people. If they're looked down on then maybe what you say is true. But in a society where they're treated fairly, why would you need to classify someone as having a disorder in order to make treatments available? Your last point, that's your weakest one. You say that "it is very likely that half or more of trans claims are FALSE". Where's your evidence for that claim? As it is, that claim can be wholly ignored as there's nothing supporting it.

  155. I think that some of this is your own interpretation, rather than a dark reflection. Saying it's about "listen to me or else" is presuming the intention of the individual. If I'm trying to de-escalate a potentially violent situation there's a good chance that I'm dealing with someone really in the mindset to listen to reason right now. So some of that de-escalation is physical, such as how I position myself between them and their intended target, how I hold myself to appear in their eyes etc. I'm not thinking "listen to me or else". I'm thinking and trying to project this idea that "I'm not just gonna let you do this". And I think it works a lot of the time, because it forces them to start reasoning in their head. That suddenly what seemed like easy pickings is now going to be hard, it's not what they wanted at all. Before, when they were too angry and too sure of their own capabilities, they wouldn't listen. Now they're re-assessing their capabilities and that's sapping their anger. Now they're starting to calm down because they WANT to find a way out of this. You could argue that the end result is the same. Maybe that's true. But rather than me putting myself out there with an intent of "I could kill you so listen to me or else" I'm trying to do so with the intent of "I will protect and I won't let you push people around". In an ideal world, none of it would be necessary. But we don't. My town has a big problem with unpredictable, aggressive and often violent skagheads. I've interceded more than a dozen times in situations they've created but I've never once actually had to fight them. So my experience is that it's both needed and that it works.

You can get a good summary just on the Wiki page but basically it started as a very, very different thing than what it's become. It was originally people of all genders sharing their experiences with loneliness and a lack of romantic or sexual activity. The idea was that by sharing and exploring the topic, they would help each other and in the case of many of them, that's what happened. Problem with help groups like that which don't have oversight is that, as time passes, the only people left in the group are the angry bitter ones who were unwilling to turn their lives around. Modern incels.

Capitalism is deceptive, using branding like "organic" to further increase profits while making consumers think they're reducing their carbon footprint. A 2012 study at the Corvinus University of Budapest found "no significant difference" between carbon footprints of those consuming "ethically" and those who don't. I actually do have more. There's how capitalism forces working class people further down the rabbit hole by making "sustainable lifestyles" unaffordable. There's the way large corporations like BP cause environmental disasters because they cut costs for greater profit. But I think just sticking to three main points for now is more manageable. You don't have to address them all at once either, just pick one and explain how you think "actually, YES, you can be an ethical consumer under capitalism". 'Cos if you're gonna be a creepy stalker, you could at least try to know what you're talking about.
