Yeah. Priests have an almost spotless record.

@sunamcm1 Like you said, the larger scandal is the cover-up. In which all are complicit.
2
@sunamcm1 If you join the Catholic Church as a priest and don't campaign against the hierarchy that had enabled and protected child rapists, then you're complicit.
2
@sunamcm1 It's really not the same. For one thing, the Catholic Church is an actual organisation. Drag Queens, trans folks... they're individuals united by a common trait. And again, the history speaks for itself. Anyone who chooses to join the priesthood, knowing what we know about them, is complicit.

@sunamcm1 You don't need to be part of an organised religion to have a connection with God. That was part of Jesus' whole thing. You'll forgive me if I don't put any stock in what a child-rape apologist thinks is ridiculous. Catholicism is one of the worst things to ever happen to the world, particularly the western world. You want to go to Ireland and ask the people there how good Catholicism has been for them? Their crimes don't start and finish with child rape. So you can take your opinions about them "preserving Western civilization" and shove them where the sun don't shine. They've been nothing but a cancer.

@sunamcm1 You're defending a pack of lies. Jesus didn't found the Catholic Church. He was dead long before a bunch of power hungry patriarchs strung that monstrosity together. And if "your people" are from Ireland then maybe pay a visit and see what that religion has done for them. You wanna defend the church of its heinous crimes like that, then yeah. You're an apologist. And should not speak of shame.
1
@sunamcm1 Dare? Why not learn about stuff a bit more recent than 2,000yrs ago? Stuff like the religiously motivated persecutions of non-Catholics (backfired later), punishing people who tried to educate the common masses, witch trials, cash for absolution, the entire Spanish Inquisition... then there's the modern age, with the convents in Ireland and their literally countless abuses of human rights and basic decency, declining to denounce the Nazis during WWII and their horrendous treatment of LGBT people.
1
@sunamcm1 Way to deflect. I'm not talking about specifically understanding Jesus, that's not the topic. We're talking about atrocities committed by the Catholic Church. Something you seem keen to avoid acknowledging, unsurprisingly since you're an apologist for child rape. Acknowledging that would cause your tiny world to crumble. Your own knowledge reeks of church indoctrination.
1
@sunamcm1 The fact you can call it an overwhelming force for good while also claiming to acknowledge their atrocities shows you as a vile individual. "Saved the western civilisation"... what a pathetically laughable lie.

@beckyr5474 It is? Damn, someone better tell the Alps...
1
@condor237 And you sound like a small-minded bigot.
1
@condor237 It's a figure of speech and comes across more natural than me saying "the content and tone of your comments reads like that of a small minded bigot". And I'm sure you know that.
