@dannyblanchflower1882 Because they still know that their Conservative base relies largely on them being hostile to immigrants. While their neo-liberal, laissez-faire attitudes towards finances means they won't actually place a hard barrier down, they will do what they can to play both sides.

See, I guarantee that you and I have very different notions of what it means to be English and love your country. And I know you're no more English than I. This is why you're being asked to establish what you mean by British culture. I want to know whether your perspective is narrow or considered.

@maxmaritime1206 You haven't answered my question. It's relevant, because the culture of the UK changed considerably throughout the last century, as it did the century before that and so on. And it will continue to change as time passes. I challenge you to define your sense of British or English culture, so as to demonstrate how young it is. And how silly you're being about it. @maxmaritime1206 Yet I didn't hyphenate the word and no such "censorship" has occurred. And don't flatter yourself, there's nothing difficult to understand in what you're saying. It's just that it's mostly empty rambling. All you're saying is that you think it's terrible if cultures get erased. You never addressed my previous points about how we've actually erased our own culture. You just restated yourself. Funny, that. And now you're seeking an emergency exit because you don't have anything to say or to challenge what you're presented with.

@maxmaritime1206 The main culprits in our "cultural destruction" is us. We sold our culture down the river to Amazon, Starbucks, Apple and the like. A homogenised culture all buying the same things, watching the same programs and listening to the same music. Immigrant communities just provide a stark contrast of how much we've lost. As for suggesting that our government aren't hostile to immigrants, that's just a stupid thing to say.
