  2. Since you made this an essay question on the test, I would say a double blind experiment would be necessary to arrive at a reasonable conclusion. But if you do the maths on how close one is to the high powered antennae times the amount of time one is in proximity to its directional output, one could get a reasonable idea of what kind of exposure one might suffer.

  10. Sabine, I think I understand what you are criticizing and why. I would love to hear what your roadmap would be for explorations in physics for the next fifty years and what your allocations of funds for "blue sky" investigations and targeted "based on current understanding" theories would be. There is always the tension of "if we have x Euros to allocate to physics", how is that distributed? If an accelerator that is 1000x as powerful can be built at 10% of the cost per TeV, that might be worth doing, but if is the same price per TeV it might not be, even though we might learn "something". All I know for certain is that you will discuss something that will make me think more deeply about a question, and for that I am grateful,

Sabine, I would hope sometime you could examine why the first generation of quarks, the up having a spin of 2/3 and a mass half of the down quark, while the other two generations of 2/3 spin quarks have much higher ratios of mass to the spin -1/3 quarks. Is there a symmetry-breaking mechanism involved?

Sabine, is there a correlation between the B-meson anomalies and Bee population declines? 😀 But seriously, this is a very important topic to consider that industrial farming is doing many harms to the planet: soil degradation, loss of habitat, super weeds adapting to herbicides, species loss (from arthropods to mammals), water use, climate instability, poor diet, commodity pricing, loss of nutrition, etc. (PS: nice dress)

  16. Physics is replete with examples of doing big ideas with smaller budgets. You float the idea and then brainstorm how to make it a reality. That is how Kip Thorne and Joseph Weber got to finally build the LIGO observatories. Dream big, focus on the parameters, build a small prototype, narrow the error bats, demonstrate feasibility, ask for more funding. Similarly, do a good job, ask for a raise, move to somewhere that values your ideas more. Sabine, you always raise interesting questions and are willing to challenge the orthodoxy, YEAH!

Sabine, I have a question about the up and down quarks: 2d and 3d gneration spin 2/3 quarks are MUCH heavier than the -1/3 spin quarks, but the up, with a spin of 2/3 is about half the mass of the of the -1/3 spin down quark. Is there an explanation for this? I have searched online but haven't been able to locate any information about this seeming anomaly.

  26. My burning question is why the up and down quark charges are anti-correlated with their masses relative to the four heavier quarks? That is, the 2/3 charged quarks (charm and top) are much more massive than the strange and bottom quarks of -1/3 charge, whilst up at 2/3 charge is less massive than the down quark.
