I've had encounters with a copperhead in the Midwest, a rattlesnake in California, and a cobra in Turkmenistan, and they were as afraid of me as I was of them. On the other hand, I have King snakes and rat snakes on my property and would not want to see them go. Oddly, our dog can recognize a snake molt and react instinctively.
