Bobby (KUDOS!) did a fabulous dissection of the efforts of Nishiawakura to redefine itself. We were kinda startled by the statement near the end of the high number of people in the village who speak English--but didn't follow up on what that meant. More varied ideas? A mayor willing to lead without building a consensus? A critical mass of English speakers who can help other immigrants contribute to the community? Value-added processing of timber into usable end-products is smart, as is co-generation in the distribution of heat energy and smart cooling. There were so many details in this video that deserve further elucidation, and makes Nishiawakura a place we really want to visit on our next trip to Japan.

Greg, as always you are informative and entertaining. We rarely dine out as I much prefer to cook at home, so our lives have only been affected to the extent that we cannot travel.

@Narnendil Good point on the cost of fruit. If fruit is so expensive, I wonder how the diet of Japanese people can be healthy?
1
I think the way you did it in this video is the best. You put the question on the screen and the music indicated that,

These deeper discussion that happen over a few episodes are really great, Greg! One gets a better sense if a people's identity.

Great review, Greg. We US Americans have a lot to atone for.

It is funny that your wife is so camera shy but her sister is a natural. You did a good job showing the variety of ages and time-constrained differences and we got a lot out of this vid. Thanks Greg!

Greg, how easy is it to get a cat back into Japan once it has gone to Canada for a period of time? Are you keeping your Japanese house? How will your kids keep up their Japanese? I am not expecting answers, just posing some questions, if they are not too impertinent. Your videos are always great, well-paced, informative, and have a nice humorous twist in them!

Why haven't CBC picked up on thiis? Great content, Greg!

T'he most disappointing thing about this video was the fake maple syrup. I'll bet as a Canadian you must have felt a sense of betrayal. Great vid as usual Greg!

Thanks, Shin, for helping your dad with the video! You two make a great team!
1
Maybe, but the bonding is priceless. You are a good dad, Greg.

Greg, very clever to juxtapose the various modes of transport at the specific locations! It gave me a chuckle and reaffirmed what a delightful videomaker you are!
1
Greg, you are the person from whom I learn the most about Japan. Great work, but I could have watched for an hour how they do everything. Are you planning a trip to the new museum that just opened up a couple of months ago?
1
You always have a great perspective to share, Greg! We learn so much from you, so thank you very much!

Greg, I wasn't expecting you to read out my comment but it does represent my gratitude for the work you do. Now we are trying to find a couple of hours, and some popcorn, to watch the documentary. When it comes to reflecting on what it means to be "American" (meaning, in this context, a citizen of the US), I think on a certain level is the oath that one takes in order to be granted citizenship: Basically to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States." Those of us born in the US do not have to take this oath, but for anyone who does, they are "American".

Great storytelling, Greg! The concern of older folks about driving is a compelling impetus to get self-driving cars deployed.
1
What a gansta opening, Greg! Interesting juxtaposition between the west and est. I love to look at neighborhoods from maps at street level and overhead pictures, too.

Wow, young Chris O? How did he leverage his position to TC?
1
Greg, we love these infrastructure stories about Life in Japan! You do such great work, so thanks!

Greg, pedaling his badassery around Tokyo! At 28:55 that is the opening shot for Midnight Diner (Shin'ya shokudô) (now on Netflix--really fun) about a diner in Golden Gai and the various characters. What a cool way to see the city! I recognize a lot of the places from other videos from other YTers and it is always great to get different perspectives. Thank you Greg!

Greg, I've been looking for a shirt like yours :-) Any other channel and your title would be clickbaity, but this looks like a real earnest project. Make sure you install underfloor heating! We are excited to see this project progress in the hands of a professional filmmaker. Ganbatte!

@LifeWhereImFrom Greg, it's a joke! 404 not found

So poignant, Greg! We don't have public baths (except at the university), but we do have a dog :-)
