@dennisweidner288 Rest assured I am well aware of that, I was speaking figuratively in that they brought it all on themselves and in that way they did it to themselves. My dad was a WW-2 pilot, I certainly know of his and my uncles who served.

@dennisweidner288 Absolutely, but I see it as both, retribution and saving civilization. I think had the nazis attacked us the way Japan did, then for some servicemen it might have been clearer as to what they were fighting for, but when the Holocaust was exposed, our servicemen were completely outraged. That outrage was expressed by Eisenhower in various ways. One was he made the Germans own it with forced visits.
