@MrLee-qz3gy I am from Taiwan. In case you didn't know, Taiwan also claim the Taiping Island in the South China Sea due to historical context. The ROC claims that Chinese people have used the South China Sea islands, including Taiping Island, since ancient times. Historical records, such as Zhao Rugua’s Zhu Fan Zhi (1225) from the Song dynasty and Ming dynasty documents like the Records of Qiongzhou, reference Chinese maritime activities in the region, suggesting early economic and navigational use of the Spratly Islands, including Taiping. Tombstones from the Qing dynasty on Taiping Island are cited as evidence of historical Chinese habitation and economic activity. In November 1946, amid the Chinese Civil War, the ROC government sent a naval expedition to the South China Sea to assert sovereignty over the Spratly and Paracel Islands. Four warships—ROCS Tai-ping, Chung-Yeh, Yung-hsing, and Chung-chien—commanded by Lin Zun and Yao Ruyu, were dispatched. The ROC formally reclaimed Taiping Island, naming it after the warship Tai-ping ("Very Peaceful Island"). Troops were stationed there, and national markers were erected. By February 1947, the ROC published the Location Map of the South China Sea Islands, solidifying its claim. There is also an ongoing claim dispute with this island between the Phillipines and Vietnam. It's interesting what the media allows us to know.

Independent assessments Cheng Tun-jen and Tien Hung-mao, two American professors, summarized the skirmish as follows: in late 1987, the PRC started deploying troops to some of the unoccupied reefs of the Spratly Islands. Soon after the PLA stormed the Johnson South Reef on 14 March 1988, a skirmish began between Vietnamese troops and PRC landing parties. Within a year, the PLA occupied and took over seven reefs and rocks in the Spratly Islands. An "unoccupied" reef with two willing participants that led to a "skirmish" which resulted in 64 casualties is your way to argue against the South China Sea dispute? There is a reason why it's called a "dispute" and not an "invasion." If you are such a social justice warrior are you as passionate about all the other territories everybody else invaded with hundreds of millions killed? I sure remember who carpet bombed Taiwan and killed my ancestors.

However, by the early 2000s, under President Chen Shui-bian (2000–2008), Taiwan began aligning its South China Sea claims, including those over Taiping Island, with UNCLOS to bolster its international credibility." We were forced to change our position because one country decided to abandon us due to its changing geopolitical interests, not our will to defend our soverign territorial integrity. Learn the facts.

@codeman260 You are using a "skirmish" that happened 37 years ago and some "law" to argue against the right for countries to fight for their territorial integrity (where they've been operating for the past 800+ years) and dismissing hundreds of million lives lost because certain crazies want to rule the world. What the PRC is doing is very simple. As a major power rises, it will be more assertive in having a buffer zone to ensure its security will not be violated. The US extended its buffer zone all the way into the first island chain made up of Japan, the ROC, and the Phillipines post WWII to ensure its homeland security. During the 50s, the US even placed nuclear war heads in the island of Taiwan pointed at mainland China. China could not defend itself back then, but it doesn't mean China won't defend itself now.

@rnrxt-og1ix The SCS is a matter of multiple countries having territorial disputes which is completely normal. The issue is the Western media is constantly churning out misinformation or catchy headlines to demonize certain countries and instead of continued dialogue they start pushing for weapon sales. If an armed conflict happens within the region, all of us will be sent back to the stone age. Everyone should take a step back and engage in dialogue instead of allowing some third party to turn a region 5000+ km from their own homeland into a war zone while they profit massively from weapon sales.

Let's fact check your misinformation. First of all, the civil war between the ROC and the PRC had nothing to do with the "Taiwan" island since during that period the Taiwan island (Formosa) was under Japanese occupation. Instead, it was a war of ideological battles between communism and capitalism, exacerbated by Cold War dynamics. When the ROC made the tactical retreat to the island and established its temporary government in Taipei, Taiwan Province of the ROC, the ROC leader CKS did NOT want to create a new "country" called Taiwan. Instead, he insisted on retaking the mainland to unify all of China. There is literally a ROC slogan called "Unification of China via the three Principles of the People" while Communist China's slogan was "Unification of China via One China two systems." The last time any lives were sacrificed in the civil war was the Kinmen crisis that happened in 1958. 514 ROC troops were killed to protect Chiang Kai Shek's authoritarian, military regime in the Taiwan Province of the Republic of China, not "thriving democracy" in your fantasized country "Taiwan." I grew up in the ROC and actually know what I am talking about. Do you? Any more BS you would like to spread I am happy to expose.

It was the Nationalist KMT party who fought against the communists to defend the ROC. The current separatist regime led by the DPP is the one who wants to dismiss everything the KMT did and instead label its leader CKS the "ruthless authoritarian dictator." The DPP does not want to recognize our ROC constitution and called it a "disaster." Instead of conducting diplomacy with the PRC, the DPP is unconditionally using tax payer's money to fulfill weapons contracts while refusing oversight from the opposition parties such as the KMT and the TPP. The 9-dash line, as it’s commonly known, was first drawn by the Republic of China in 1947 to assert claims in the South China Sea, based on historical maritime activities and notions of historical rights. Somone with your IQ obviously isn't educated to know there is no emperor in the Republic of China. In fact, the Wuchang uprising that overthrew the Qing Dynastry for that exact reason, to get rid of the Imperial emperor system. Now you are talking about some BS about emperor and dash lines? 😂😂😂😂😂😂

In May 2024, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan applied for arrest warrants against three Hamas leaders—Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, and Ismail Haniyeh—for crimes including extermination, murder, hostage-taking, rape, torture, and cruel treatment related to the October 7, 2023, attacks in Israel. On November 21, 2024, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Mohammed Deif. Keep the BS coming.
